No Lights No Lycra


No Lights No Lycra (NLNL) is a dance night with a difference.

The idea is simple. The lights are turned off, music is played and everybody dances however they want.

No Lights No Lycra is a night where you can completely let go and shake out the stresses of the week in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol free atmosphere. It’s a night to experience new tunes and revisit old favourites, a night to lose yourself in the music while working up a sweat.

No Lights No Lycra was first launched in Melbourne by unruly dance students Alice Glenn and Heidi Barrett and has now made its way to Brooklyn, Berlin, San Francisco, Amsterdam and now, Sydney.

It’s dancing in your kitchen taken to the next level. There is no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique, just free movement. It’s not about looking good, quite the opposite in fact.

It is a daggy, non-pretentious night that invites people to completely be themselves.

NLNL was launched with Curiousworks as a presenting partner. Money raised will go towards empowering disadvantaged communities across Australia to have a self-defined, sustainable voice.

No Lights No Lycra has recently changed from a weekly Tuesday night event, to a Monthly event which will be held on the first Thursday night of the month. It is located in central Surry Hills, and is only $5 entry.
