65 Roses 2019 - Cystic Fibrosis Australia

65 Roses Day is celebrated throughout May each year and raises money to help people with Cystic Fibrosis live longer.

Since the 1980s the average life expectancy has increased from 17 to 37.

But its still only 37. Give people with CF a chance to seize the day.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children and young adults today. There are approx 3,000 people living with CF in Australia. CF seriously affects breathing and digestion.

Why 65 Roses?

"65 Roses" comes from the folklore story of a little boys effort to pronounce his sisters condition; Cystic Fibrosis. Instead he called it "65 Roses".

The rose is the national symbol of Cystic Fibrosis. Roses are often considered the ultimate expression of natural beauty, their magnificent bloom and fragrance, juxtaposed on a thorny stem, have captured imaginations for centuries. As a living thing roses can endure harsh conditions, but flourish with care and attention.
