The Grand Electric

An exciting new live performance theatre 199 Cleveland St, Surry Hills, home to Strut & Fret's award winning productions.

The Grand Electric shimmied her way onto the Sydney theatre scene in January 2023, grabbing headlines with three back-to-back sell-out seasons of Blanc de Blanc Encore.

Ideally situated on the edge of Surry Hills and Redfern and masterfully styled with original Parisian murals by Max Elbourne, our unique and versatile venue is a feast for the senses.

HISTORY OF THE GRAND ELECTRIC BUILDING
The building which houses The Grand Electric was originally built to house the NSW branch of the Australian Railway Union in the 1930s. The star-shaped insignia of the ARU is still visible on the front of the building, however the space has been used for theatre ever since the Performance Space for contemporary performance was established in the 1980s. Today, the spirit of the railway workers who originally used the space as a union hall are carried through in the turn-of-the-century railway themed d?©cor.
